After a long day on the John Muir Trail, there was nothing more gratifying than unwinding under the vast Sierra sky with a hot drink in hand. Maybe it was my whiskey hot apple cider nightcap talking, but during those moments, I began to think that I could just stay out there forever.

Last weekend, I wanted to relive this feeling. So a friend and I decided to head out to Lake Mead for some stargazing and impromptu campfire action.

Before heading out, I grabbed my new Stanley Adventure flask (*stoked*) and filled it with whiskey. Then of course, we also needed some snacks, firewood, smores fixings, and a blanket.

And off we went to find the perfect sunset view. After wandering down a few dirt roads, we stumbled on a beautiful overlook called Crawdad Cove.

We quickly built a roaring fire, boiled some cider, and mixed some hot drinks in my Stanley Vacuum Mug which was sure to keep my camp cocktail piping hot.

We hung out there for hours, watching the sun go down and the moon rise, and I even caught some shooting stars. That same blissful feeling I had on the John Muir Trail washed over me. I realized that I need to have spontaneous evenings with campfires and cocktails way more often.

Ah…warm belly and happy soul.

A word on the Stanley flask and mug

The stainless steel Stanley flask is 8oz, so it holds plenty of booze for two (or three?) people for a night by the campfire or out on the town. It has a slim design and could easily fit in a small purse or in the back pocket of a guy’s pants. It also has a leakproof top and pours really smooth, so you don’t need to worry about spillage when you are mixing your drink or taking a swig.

The 16 oz Stanley vacuum mug is also totally leakproof. You can fill it up, and throw it in your bag upside down, and nothing comes out. This feature makes it perfect for anyone who wants to take their coffee to go in the morning.  I was also impressed with the mug’s insulation. I really nursed my whiskey hot apple cider and even after a few hours I wasn’t able to notice a drop in temperature.

I am always on the lookout for new products to add to my camping box, and these definitely made the cut. I can’t wait to take them on my next camping adventure, as well as to my favorite summer music festivals.
